The Top Five Cities Visitors to Italy Must See

When it comes to culture and history, few countries in the world can compare with Italy. It was the seat of power for one of the largest and most impressive empires in the world, and it was at the heard of the Renaissance. It is little wonder that so many people dream of coming to Italy for a vacation. However, there is so much to see and do that it can become somewhat overwhelming.

The following are a list of five of the best cities to visit while in Italy. It is not an exhaustive list by any means, but these cities will give visitors a real feel for Italy.

Rome is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most famous destination for tourists to the country to visit. There is the Colosseum, temple ruins, museums, villas and gardens, and even Vatican City where you can visit St. Peter's Basilica. You will also find great restaurants and modern nightlife as well.

Venice is a strange and wondrous city that was built on the water in the northeastern part of Italy. It is known for being one of the most romantic cities in the world, with gondola rides for couples being one of the most popular attractions. While traveling the canals, you will find restaurants, museums, and some unique architecture. This is truly one of the most impressive, distinct cities in the world.

Florence, located in Tuscany, was considered by many to be the heart of the world during the Renaissance. Many of the masters, including da Vinci and Michelangelo called the city their home at some point in their lives. This place is a must see for art lovers, and a quick trip to one of the small villages in the beautiful Tuscan countryside can offer up some good food and good wine.

Milan, one of the world's fashion capitals, has more to offer to visitors than just the latest runway fare. It is located in the north of Italy and is less than an hour away from the Alps. Plenty of great restaurants, combined with the ultra hip nightlife, help to round out this popular city.

Genoa is a seaport located on the northwestern shore of Italy, and while it may not be as well known as Rome or Venice, there are plenty of architectural masterpieces that shouldnęt be missed, as well as museums and a large aquarium.
